2040 is a leap year: 366 days, with 29 of them in February. It opens on a Sunday and closes on a Monday, because the extra day pushes the end of the year one weekday past the start. Counted the ISO way it holds 52 weeks, beginning on January 2. Everything below is calculated for 2040 specifically, and every layout on this page prints from the generator above.
About the 2040 calendar
The leap day lands on Wednesday, February 29. That single extra day is why 2040 does not end on the weekday it started on, and why a wall calendar printed for any other year goes wrong from the end of February onwards. Set against its neighbors, 2040 sits one weekday on from 2039 and two weekdays short of 2041. 2039 started on a Saturday, 2040 starts on a Sunday, and 2041 starts on a Tuesday. If you want the arithmetic behind that, how many days are in a year covers it.
2040 carries the ordinary 52 ISO weeks. Week 1 is the week containing January 4, so the first days of January can still belong to the last week of 2039, depending on where they fall. Four months in 2040 spill into a sixth row on a Monday-start grid: January, April, July, and December. That is where day cells get shortest on a monthly layout. Switch the week start to Sunday and the six-row months become September and December instead, so the setting genuinely changes what prints. 261 days fall Monday to Friday and 105 at the weekend, before any public holiday comes off. See how ISO week numbers work if the numbering matters for your work.
The movable dates are the ones to check before printing anything: Easter Sunday falls on April 1, with Good Friday on March 30, Mother's Day on May 13, US Thanksgiving on November 22, Chinese New Year on February 12, Eid al-Fitr around October 6. Fixed dates do not move, but the weekday under them does. In 2040, Christmas Day is a Tuesday, July 4th a Wednesday, Halloween a Wednesday. Turning on holiday marking in the settings puts your own country's public days on the sheet instead of a generic list.
2040 has three Fridays falling on the 13th, in January, April, and July. No month in 2040 manages five Fridays, five Saturdays and five Sundays, though September and December do carry five full Saturday-and-Sunday weekends. And because the Gregorian calendar repeats, 2040 is grid-for-grid identical to 2012: same weekdays, same dates, same month layouts. A 2040 sheet will be right again in 2068. Only the dates that move, Easter and the lunar holidays, need checking again.
2040 holds twelve full moons, the first on January 29 and the last on December 18. The lunar month does not divide into the calendar year, which is why the moon dates shift even between years whose grids are identical, and why a moon phase calendar has to be generated for the year rather than reused.

2040 calendar questions
- Is 2040 a leap year?
- Yes. 2040 divides by four and is not a skipped century year, so February has 29 days and the year runs to 366. The leap day is Wednesday, February 29.
- How many weeks are in 2040?
- 52 by the ISO-8601 count, starting on January 2. In days that is 366, or 52 weeks and two spare days. Those spare days are why the weekday of a given date moves every year.
- What day of the week does 2040 start on?
- January 1 is a Sunday, and December 31 is a Monday. Printed with the week starting on Monday, January shows six blank cells before the 1st. With a Sunday start, no.
- Can I reuse an old calendar for 2040?
- Yes, if it is from 2012. That year has the same weekday pattern and the same leap-year length, so every date lands on the same day. The next year a 2040 calendar will be right again is 2068. Only the holidays that move need re-checking, which means Easter and the lunar dates.
- How many working days does 2040 have?
- 261 days fall Monday to Friday, and 105 at the weekend. Public holidays come off that 261 and differ by country, so switch holiday marking on and pick your country before you count out a contract or a notice period.
- How many full moons are there in 2040?
- Twelve. The first is January 29 and the last December 18. No month holds two, so there is no blue moon this year. The moon phase calendar marks all four principal phases on the dates they fall.
- Which 2040 layout should I print?
- The yearly sheet puts all twelve months on one sheet for a wall. The monthly layout gives each month a full page and room to write in. The weekly pages suit time blocking. All of them print at A4 and US Letter, and the calendar types guide compares the rest.
